GEORGE LANE 

George lane named after an inn of the same name 
(the building end on to the road on the left in the lower picture). The inn and cottages were replaced by a Roman Catholic Church. It is reputed that Oliver Cromwell stayed at the inn.

LADIES BRIDGE

The horse to the right of the of the two children belonged to the miller. The houses in the new photo are for retired people.

KINGSBURY HILL

The buildings are the same, only the use has changed. The shop on the corner was Figgins noted grocery stores the next one down was a Pub called The Bell and Shoulder of Mutton which was running from 1780 to 1952. Figgins is now a Management services office and the Bell is split into two shops with living accommodation above.

STONE BRIDGE LANE

A Footpath between London Road and Saint Martins.

Stone Bridge crosses the River Kennet to the Eastern side of Marlborough, linking London Road to St. Martins.

Police Station George Lane

A perfectly good Victorian building was replaced by a modern police station in 1995, at a cost of £1.7 million.
It is now open during office hours!!!  any other time dial 999
