Fyfield has a long and rich history dating back to neolithic times when the inhabitants of the area used the stones from the Fyfield downs to build portions of Avebury and it's Grand Avenue.

The land has had many occupants over the years, from all different parts of Europe, however the Roman invasion in 45AD has left the largest mark, bringing with them laws, religion and roads. The main road A4 still follows the course of the old Roman road which the locals of the Kennet district had to build for their new masters.

There has traditionally been some rivalry between the four villages that share the same 2 miles of Kennet Flood plan; Fyfield, Lockeridge, East Overton and West Overton. Since the days of the civil war and the villages had to be divided between different owners
