Marlborough is situated in the UK between the towns of Hungerford and Calne on the old coaching route midway between London and Bristol, The Marlborough area is steeped in history from Neolithic times onwards and makes a perfect base from which to explore the beautiful county of Wiltshire

Covering about 20 square miles the forest is a great place for that walk on Sunday afternoon. FREE

Wilton Windmill

Wilton Windmil


10 miles South East. 
Open between Easter and early October, a fully restored and, on certain days, working windmill.
 

Crofton Pumping Station Crofton Beam Engines


10 Miles South East of Marlborough 01672 870300 Not one but two restored  beam engines an 1812 Boulton and Watt and an 1846 Harvey of Hayle Cornwall. They were used to raise water to the highest part of the Kennet and Avon Canal.

The canal was opened in 1810 and is 86 miles long with 106 locks, now used mostly for leisure, fishing and holiday Barges.

View over Marlborough View Points


Just off of the A345 Road to Pewsey
Granham Hill gives one of the best views over Marlborough, it's also the place where the old pack horse road can be seen as well as being the site for the Marlborough White Horse. FREE

West kennet Long Barrow West Kennet Longbarrow


5 Miles west on the A4 Bath Road.
Built around 3500BC and then used for about a thousand years before being closed off this site is known to have had 45 to 50 burials inside. FREE

Silbury Hill Silbury Hill


5 Miles West on the A4 Bath Road.
A 132 feet high mound, built around the same time as Avebury and the nearby Longbarrow,  its purpose has never been discovered despite three excavations into the Mound nothing has ever been found. FREE but no access to the top

Avebury Stone Circle Avebury


Large stone Circle (much bigger and older than Stonehenge) with ditches and banks also a Stone flanked Avenue leading off to the South. FREE

20 miles South of Marlborough. 
Probably the best known heap of rocks in the world!
Quite expensive and VERY busy all year round.
